Handwriting Club

Handwriting is fading from school curriculums yet, students are expected to excel and keep up with the academic demands placed on them. This places students at an unfair disadvantage, especially as their workload increases each year. Many parents, teachers, and students share feelings of frustration over the lack of support for this crucial skill. To bridge this gap and provide the instruction and support students deserve, we are proud to offer The Just Right Handwriting Club.

Designed for students in 1st-3rd grades, our club caters to those in general education classrooms who can work alongside peers, and attend to tabletop tasks, while following simple instructions. If your child needs more one-on-one support but may not necessarily need skilled OT services, or if they fall outside of the specified grade range, private handwriting instruction may be the solution! Scroll down to learn more!

The core objective of our club is to empower students to become legible printers. The small group format adheres to best practices in peer-based learning, fostering a collaborative environment for students to support and motivate each other.

Our handwriting club utilizes the Size Matters Handwriting Program (SMHP) as our guiding framework.  Led by a licensed occupational therapist with tier 1 SMHP certification, our instructor utilizes the SMHP curriculum alongside a multisensory approach to provide your child with the most enriching experience possible.

Enrollment in our Handwriting Club comes with valuable benefits including an SMHP student workbook (normal cost including S&H is $23). Additionally, you will receive weekly parent education handouts, and simple, brief homework assignments (meant to be completed in 5-10 minutes) for continued practice without giving your child too much additional work on top of their current coursework.

Our handwriting club meets once a week for one hour with a maximum class size of 4 students. This small group setting ensures each student can receive personalized attention and support from the instructor.

You have the flexibility to either enroll your child on a monthly basis or you can sign them up for a 4-month block (Sept-Dec; Jan-April). All of our classes follow the school year calendar. Please feel free to contact us for a list of dates.

Remember, handwriting isn't just about legible writing; it also strengthens the arches of the hands and contributes to fine motor and visual motor skills (as well as so many other skills) which are essential for daily tasks like fastening clothing. Join The Just Right Handwriting Club to foster skills to help your child succeed!
